M3 study group

(Part 1 and Part 2)

Maryna Welsch

European Patent Attorney, Qualified UPC Representative, EQE tutor (based in Berlin)

I have an academic background in molecular biology and work as an in-house patent attorney in Germany in the plant breeding and seed sector. Since passing the EQE in 2025 on my first attempt, I have been looking for opportunities to support even more EQE candidates. Having recently been in the candidates' shoes myself, I know how demanding the EQE can be, and I want to share the strategies and mindset that helped me succeed and show that success is absolutely achievable with the right preparation and approach.

As someone who is not a native speaker of any of the EPO official languages, I understand the additional challenges many candidates face during the EQE. That is one of the reasons I took part in the EQE 2026 as a benchmarker, bringing the perspective of candidates who face those additional language challenges.

I was also actively involved in the preparation of the new M3 example papers, giving me first-hand insight into the expectations and challenges of the new exam. For this Fillun course, I have developed additional M3 example papers, allowing you to practise with realistic scenarios, apply the concepts covered during the course, and build confidence before the exam.

Although M3 is a new paper, the skills, legal reasoning, and structured approach required to succeed remain the same. During my preparation, I completed more than 10 past papers for each of the former Papers A and B using Zsofia's methodology, recognising recurring patterns and developing a deep understanding of the skills and exam language being tested.

I am extremely excited to join Fillun as a tutor for Paper M3 Parts 1 and 2. My goal is to combine the proven Fillun methodology with the principles underlying numerous past papers and the new scenarios introduced by Paper M3. Together, we will work through a structured approach that will help you recognise exam patterns, understand what is really being tested, and perform confidently under time pressure.

Course details:

  • Duration: Two days for each part (9.5 hours in total)

  • Meeting Format: Online sessions via Zoom

  • Group Size: Minimum 8, maximum 15 participants per group (first come, first served)

We are organising two-day courses for each part of the new M3 exam. Maryna will offer a course for Part 1 and Part 2 in both 2026 and 2027, and Zsofia will offer short courses for Part 3. You can join any of the courses, even for only one part. You are also free to combine them however you like. For example, you can join the course for Part 1 in 2026 and Part 2 in 2027.

For Maryna’s courses, the study plan is as follows: on the first day of the courses, you will focus on methodology and work through examples from past papers, learning how to recognize the examiners' wording and what they are actually looking for in the answers.

On the second day, you will work together on a mock paper Maryna created just for you.

By joining one of these study groups, you will also have the benefit of:

  • Access to recordings of all sessions;

  • Safe space where you can ask any questions;

  • Constant support from your tutor;

  • Growing your network of patent attorneys from all over Europe.

Please note that the correction of your exam answers is not included in the course fee, but you will be able to discuss all your questions with the tutor during the group sessions.

Please also note that Zsofia will not attend the Part 1 and Part 2 courses.
