Updates in August

This is a summary of a few updates related to the EQE (both here, on my EQE blog and on the EPO’s side). I created this post mostly for candidates who don’t follow the news on LinkedIn.

EQE Blog - free downloads

I am starting with some great news. You might have already seen that I have finally updated and double checked the downloadable materials related to Paper D. (To see when something was updated, just check the date indicated next to a document.)

To download any of these documents, just go to the downloads in the EQE Blog or click on the button below.

Paper D1 methodology - new online course

This is another great news, although the end result is not free. Seeing the very low pass rate of the 2023 Paper D (38% without compensable fails, 48% with compensable fails), I decided to record an online course, sharing all of my Paper D1 related tips with you. In this video, I also answer the first 3 questions of 2023 Paper D1, so the full part I of Paper D1. I talk a lot about these questions in this video too, showing the steps I take and how much I write when answering D1 questions.

The course is a bit longer than 3 hours.

EQE 2024 schedule

Let’s continue with an official update regarding the next EQE. The EPO has recently published (27 July 2023) the schedule of the next EQE, see here.

There are no changes with regard to the Pre-exam, Paper A, Paper B and Paper C. However, the schedule of Paper D has been changed again, see below.

There will only be 5 D1 questions in Paper D1. Part D1 will be worth 55 marks again, D2 only 45 marks.

Accordingly, I have updated the summaries on my EQE Blog as follows:

See Paper A basics here.
See Paper B basics here.
See Paper C basics here.
See Paper D basics here.

Unitary patent in the next EQE?

Probably the most frequently asked question: will Unitary patent be tested in the next exam?

The answer is: it might be, yes. See the question and answer on the EPO’s FAQ site:

OJ EPO 2022, A41 can be found here. Please make sure to study it before the next exam.
We will definitely study the content of this OJ with the D1 study groups!

Should I also make an online course about Unitary patent? 😊

My Paper D1 and Pre-exam weekly study groups

After the two 24-week long D1 study groups have been fully booked very quickly, I was asked to start a third 24-week long D1 study group too. In a few days, many people have already signed up for this third 24-week long D1 study group, so it looks like it will start too! Goodbye my Friday evenings… 😅

Details are here.

In case you missed the first two 24-week long D1 study groups, two people still have the chance to join this third one. I know that the timing is not the best, but this is the only way I can make time.

Ohh, and here is a new testimonial (about the same D1 study group last year) that surprised me the other day on LinkedIn. Thank you, Jane! ❤️

And finally, here is a summary of the status of the study groups.

  2. 24-week D1 study group with Zsofia (Saturdays at 10:00 CET, from 9 Sept) - fully booked
